FAQs

Health Insurance questions

When can I sign up for health insurance?

Marketplace plans are mostly sold during Open Enrollment each fall. Outside that window you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after events like losing coverage, moving, marriage or a new baby. Some private plans can be bought year-round.

What’s the difference between an HMO and a PPO?

HMOs usually cost less but require you to use doctors in their network and get referrals for specialists. PPOs cost more but let you see specialists and out-of-network providers with fewer restrictions.
